Description

Vintage Paden Glass Co DORSET Provincial Crystal Snack Plate & Teacup Set of 4 divided plates and cups Bamboo Hospitality Set Basket-weave 1940's

A wonderful tradition is making a comeback – the ladies luncheon! With a matching set of 4 plates and cups this beautiful set – that doesn’t look like cafeteria tray – you and your guests can “go green” while enjoying a little touch of elegance!

This snack set was sold as 8 pieces, a set of 4 plates and 4 cups, making this a complete set as distributed by Mark E Rosenfeld Inc. of 147 Fifth Avenue, New York NY in 1947.

The plates are designed with a ”Bamboo & Ribbon” motif. The top of the plate ring has a delicate little bow with a ribbon that that “wraps” around the outer rim of the plate. The plate has a slight lifts that separate it into 3 sections, as well as the set ring for the cup. The bamboo pattern and the ribbon are deeply embossed. The handle on the cup is wonderfully shaped, as you can hold it securely using your thumb and the side of you index finger – the old world ladies cup hold.

Each plate measures approximately 9-1/2” in diameter, ¾” in height and has an 8” base diameter. The cup is 2-1/4” tall, has a base diameter of 2-1/8”, a top diameter of 3-5/8” and the handle is 1-5/8” in overall length.

The set is in wonderful vintage condition! There are no chips, crazing, cracks, blemishes or repairs! The Crystal set is very heavy and weighs over 9 lbs before packaging for shipping. Will ship with insurance.

Whether for the new collector or the connoisseur, this beautiful vintage set will be a lovely addition to your party or pressed glass pieces!!

Paden City Glass Manufacturing Company
The Paden City Glass Manufacturing Company was established in Paden City, West Virginia in 1916. Paden City quickly began producing fine quality handmade, pressed and mold blown glassware.

David Fisher was managing the New Martinsville Glass Company at this time. He was offered and accepted a position at Paden City as plant manager. Upon his death in 1933, his son Samuel Fisher became Paden City's President. Samuel continued to run the company until it closed its doors in 1951.

But in the time that the Company is was in business it created some of the most interesting, and most talked about glassware ever made in this country -- the elusive Paden City glassware held in such high esteem by collectors today.

For reasons which are not fully understandable, Paden City's glassware is for the most part elusive today. The word scarce can be honestly applied to much of it, and there are some items which were made by the company which are in the fairest sense of the word, rare. There are two probable causes for the scarcity of Paden City glass. First, the company was heavily involved in the production of hotel and restaurant ware. It is entirely possible that the production of giftware and dinnerware for the home use was far more restricted than heretofore believed. (The brief history came from the books Colored Glassware of the Depression Era 2 by Hazel Marie Weatherman and Paden City The Color Company by Jerry Barnett.)
