Description

Perfect for Valentine's or a romantic gift. Promotion SALE for my new collection! Regular price $27.00, for a limited time $21.00. I use all true vintage beads for my necklaces in my Seaside Spree Story Collection. " This particular necklace has an antique bead, over 100 years old, the silver/white heart bead. "Atlantic City" is a vintage bead reBAUBLED necklace measuring just a tad shy of 18". To give you an idea of scale, the largest bead measures about 18mm and the smallest ones on each end measure 6mm. From my Seaside Spree Story Collection, jewelry creations repurposing vintage beads from the 40s-70s. (Sometimes I will throw in a later vintage bead, like from the 80s, if it contributes to the vision!) If you want, you can read the vision behind this collection later in listing. ***
"Atlantic City", from my Seaside Spree Story Collection, where every piece has an inspiration story!
"Atlantic City" was inspired by one of the oldest seaside resorts on the east coast and a nod to those wonderful seaside resorts from the Victorian era that began in Great Britain. I enjoy viewing the old black and white postcards and photographs of women in their dark long dresses with their parasols and men equally covered up strolling the boardwalk in Atlantic City. This necklace seeks to capture the hues and patterns of yesteryear, giving you something perfect for those beach nights and little black dress, quite the opposite of the Victorians, who even covered the legs on pianos and furniture. (Hey I learned something in all that art history I took for interior design, lol!) When I see those old photographs, I wonder...how did they swim? I mean, what good is a beach & water if you can't swim free? I guess Victorian and freedom aren't the best of friends. (: Nevertheless, I love the antique ambiance of this necklace and the heart shaped bead is actually over 100 years old and signifies love for the coast. Hues of black, silver, and white give this necklace an elegance that is perfect for dressing up on those summer nights. A range of finishes from matte to a soft silver sheen to a bit of sparkle on the tiny beads adds much depth. The opaque white round beads have a sea foam pattern on them and are also similar to frosted sea glass. One of the black beads is a lava bead and will absorb essential oils if you want to put some drops on it for a subtle fragrance. I love the hints of seaside in this piece. You can read the "seaside" meaning in this collection title below, which is especially relevant for this necklace.

Nice shorter length working well with rounded or slit open neck shirts, collared shirts, t-shirts...very versatile and comfortable. If you aren't sure of how this length will work for you, measure a string 18" and try it out!

I use gunmetal plated over brass. This is a thin but strong chain. The black gunmetal shade reminds me of the color of marsh pluff mud in the lowcountry and shade looks good with silver, antique silver, or gold & adds to versatility of the necklace. I use vintage beads in my creations, dating from the 1940s-70s with most being mid century, 50s-60s range. Sometimes a will use a later but still vintage bead if it can contribute to the look I am going for.
The Seaside Spree Story Collection and "Atlantic City" are original creations and property of mine and can not be reproduced.
***Seaside Spree Story Collection***
Seaside.... It's an older term so it fits with the feel of my creations that incorporate vintage beads. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, people called what we call the "beach" today the "sea side." You will notice this on very old postcards. Many coastal areas had, and luckily some still have, marshes, barrier islands, and inlets that separated the mainland from the sea. So the first land's edge next to the water, like the an area that faced a creek or marsh with a barrier island on the other side of the water, was called the beach. Sea side was just what it says, the land that stood beside the actual sea. The coast of South Carolina has many wonderful areas like this.
Spree....Unrestricted indulgence, an outburst of activity. My favorite activity is to go to the Seaside, the ultimate indulgence for me! There is always an outburst of activity there, whether I am a spectator to the outburst, sitting in the sand watching the waves, birds, people, or imagining the life that teems beneath the waters . And most times I am very active myself, swimming the sea or beachcombing.
SO...there you have it, the meaning behind Seaside Spree! Love creating using as much vintage supplies as I can. Gives you an unusual piece with built in history. Each listing has a story of what the assemblage represents, always related to the SEA & Seaside. Often the necklaces are not symmetrical, providing what I like to call "funky chunkys" !
