Description

NOTE: This listing is for the eTutorial ONLY. A kit is also available here in my shop, including all 20 different beads, thread, clasp and Nylon Core. If you choose to use your own beads, you will need purchase Nylon Core available here in my Etsy shop for $1: https://www.etsy.com/listing/287162735/stren-50-test-fishing-line

This necklace was designed to represent the beauty of rose berries, called hips, that form as seed pods, after flower petals fall. The leaves have serrated edges, and great texture created by combining cylinders and round beads. It makes a beautiful winter holiday necklace, but could be worn any time of the year. It's an especially pertinent piece for this year, with Pantone's color of the year, "Greenery".

The intermediate-advanced level project takes about 12 hours for making leaves, 6 hours for assembly of leaves and berries, and 2 hours for stringing the yoke and adding the clasp, so about 20 hours total. It is a challenging project, for experienced Peyote stitchers, and reading the text is important to success. Experience with diagonal Peyote is helpful, but not required. You will melt the ends of a provided nylon core, so comfort using a lighter is also helpful, but this is much easier than it sounds. An intermediate beader with stamina and confidence could manage this project. Everything needed is taught in 50 pages. Large, clear illustrations, photos, and text teach the components and assembly, as well as techniques to make them easier. It's a challenging, but entirely do-able project.

The leaves are made in three color groups, and the kit (available separately here in my shop) makes the subtle color gradations easy. The project assembly teaches the use of a nylon core, which makes the stems sturdy but supple. The leaves and their construction have a wide variety of uses beyond this design, and the necklace could be made with any color groups of your choosing.

As shown the necklace is about 18”, but instructions are included to make it up to about 21”, and it could be extended with gold chain of your choice another 4+ inches if desired.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have, and please show me what you make with my tutorial!

What a fabulous tutorial. So clearly explained, it feels like having Marsha with me as I bead. The kit is really lovely, with the most delightful choice of beads. Sometimes bead quality and colours in kits can disappoint, but not in this kit. A real winner, I love it.

I have been looking for a really good leaf pattern. A beading friend posted her finished version on one of my facebook groups and when several of us inquired about the pattern, she provided the link. This is going to be wonderful to make, and I am sure that once I've made one I will want to make more.
