This tutorial is clearly-written and simple to follow. It gives the dimensions, templates and sewing pattern for you to make a leather journal similar to the one in the picture. The stitching pattern is from Keith Smith.

If you already make books it will save you the hassle of having to work out the design. Obviously once you have made one, you can ring the changes and make you own variations. It is also ideal to start you off on bookbinding.

You will need the following materials:
leather, glue, paper and waxed cord

You will need the following tools:
a large-eyed needle or bodkin, a sharp craft knife, metal ruler and bradawl or hole punch

Making this book does require some skill in crafting, cutting, folding, tearing and sewing but if you are used to making things, you will find it straightforward.

The instructions include useful tips on grain and on tearing paper and full-size printable templates for the cover and page stitching layout.

The file will be in PDF format and may be printed for personal use.
