Description

Made from an original antique die in Paris, this equestrian-themed stamping is rich in detail. Such a piece would have been used as an end cap to a pocket watch chain. Make sure you zoom - you can see the tendrils of the mane and the straps of the bridle.

This is an original French made stamping from the original mould from the original manufacturer who created this pattern. This IS a vintage stamping, though I cannot confirm its exact age. It is old unused stock. In its raw state it has a lovely patina, though this varies from piece to piece. I can also process my 'antique patina' which gives a lovely deep brown tone to the piece.

Made from brass, this stamping would work well as a pendant, earrings, brooch or possibly even on a cuff bracelet. I can see it also being used in mixed media artworks and crafts. Being stamped (though very strong, not flimsy) this piece is also relatively lightweight though not bendable.

Please note: different monitors show colour differently. The colour you see on the screen may vary from the actual piece you will receive.

This listing offers three options:

- Raw Brass (shown in the first photo)
- Antique Patina (photos coming soon)
- Soldered bail (photos coming soon). Soldered bail option must also have the patina...as soldering changes the colour of the metal. Bail will be centered on top of the head.

Please make your choice then add to cart.

Measures:

1.0 inches top to bottom
25mm top to bottom

FAQs

Most likely there will be color variation between what is shown on your computer screen and what I see when I photograph the items for sale.

There are many reasons for this variation, such as light conditions when photos are taken, settings of your screen and even how you see color.

If a color match is critical to you please get in touch and I can give you more information. Otherwise please expect some variation caused by the above reasons, as well as the various finishing methods and patinas I use to treat the items in this shop.

In general, any items with a patina will look coppery bronze in natural light. Any variations that appear on the screen are due to light conditions when photos were taken, or colour settings.
No you can't.

The brass stampings I sell are copyright to the manufacturer. They own the designs and do not allow unauthorised replication. Please respect their artistic rights and not copy the items you buy via any means.

Any handmade supply or components I make for finished designs are copyright to me. I do not allow unauthorised reproduction, though I hope my designs will inspire your own creativity.

You may of course re-sell any items as-is, or make your own creations to sell to your customers.
Yes, I can offer wholesale prices for bulk orders. Please get in touch via Etsy convo with your requirements and I will let you know the prices and minimum order quantity.
Yes, most likely the patina on your brass pieces will continue to darken over time. Some people like this, but for those who do not, you can brush it back with ultra fine steel wool. You can also seal the patina with renaissance wax or spray sealants.

Any pieces I add a patina to will also be sealed with an environmentally friendly spray sealant. This sealant can retard the progress of further patination, though it probably will not stop it entirely.

The best way to avoid disappointment due to item colours not meeting your expectations is to buy the raw brass version of any of my stampings. You are then free to make your own colourings and patinas to achieve your desired result.
All orders are shipped from Brisbane, Australia.

I generally require up to one week to make and/or pack up your order.

I try to ship twice a week if demand warrants it, otherwise I will ship once a week.

So it could be a week from the time you place your order until your package is shipped.

Then when it is posted the transit times around the globe will vary according to destination and shipping method.

As of April 2018 parcel transit times seem to be:

USA - 3-4 weeks
Canada - 3-5 weeks
UK/Europe - 3-4 weeks
Australia - 1-2 weeks
New Zealand - 1-2 weeks
Asia - 2-3 weeks

Most orders are sent by regular post within Australia or economy airmail overseas. There is no tracking offered on these services. Tracking is an upgrade option.
Adding a patina to a piece takes time, expertise and materials. I need to buy the patina, apply it, buff back the piece then repeat if I am not happy with the result.

When I solder on a bail, I also use materials, and time. This includes the handmade bail, solder, use of torch and gas, then adding the patina. I have invested nearly $1000 into a proper soldering set up, so this ensures you get the best result.

I prefer to solder a bail so that you don't have to punch holes in the pieces. It seems such a pity to damage the design with holes. I choose the most logical location for the bail.

You often have an option to buy a piece in raw brass if you prefer not to pay for the added touches. Please check individual listings for more details.
My shipping fees start from a low US$3.00 to most parts of the world.

Shipping costs vary depending on how heavy an item is and how bulky it is. Where possible I will always try to offer the cheapest shipping option, but sometimes in order to protect the items you purchase, an upgraded shipping option must be taken.

Additional items cost an extra US$0.15 to ship. If shipping fees are overpaid I will issue a refund. Shipping fees include the supply of new, quality boxes or bubble envelopes and protective wrap.

In some cases where the shipping calculated is well below the actual cost to ship, I will contact you and ask for an additional payment.

For shipments of $100 value or higher I will charge extra for tracking & insurance.
When adding a patina to a raw brass stamping it allows me to fully highlight all of the detail in the design. Some pieces, depending on the natural patina and metal content, may not show their full beauty in the raw state. I process the piece with my own antique patina and then do further treatments in order to show you all the amazing detail in these high quality stampings.

Read each listing carefully to understand what the buying options offer you - raw brass, patina or with a soldered bail.
- All stampings sold in this store are Nickel and Lead free.
- Production of brass stampings is in accordance with ISO14001 (eco-friendly production).
- All pieces are made in brass, though depending on the copper content
in the metal, some look more 'coppery' than others.
- All production is 100% made in France using original, antique tooling some of which dates back to 1840.
A soldered bail is a brass ring (usually a few millimetres diameter) that is soldered onto the brass stamping to offer a permanent ring from which you can hang the item. By soldering the ring on it is a strong and secure connector that is fused into the brass stamping. This is useful when making earrings and pendants.

You would need to have a soldered bail in cases where you need to hang the brass stamping but do not wish to damage it by drilling holes into it.

Soldered bails do not come off unless you snip them with wire cutters or bend them back and forth enough times to break the join. In regular normal use they will never come off.

My personal view is that a soldered bail or ring makes your design look more professional.
