Description

This is my unique approach to capturing the beauty of the High-Victorian Gothic architectural elevation of the Hudson River State Hospital's Main building (aka Admin) located in Poughkeepsie, NY. This delicate artwork is first cut by machine in my studio and then details are finished by hand using a Xacto knife. The silhouette is cut out of bright white, acid-free, 90# artists paper and measures 14.5" wide x 10" high.

The art would look great mounted against a colored backing of your choice or in a float frame (as shown in the gallery above).

This piece ships unframed, in a flat/rigid cardboard mailer for protection. Please allow 7-10 business days for me to create your art as each piece is made to order.

About the Hudson River State Hospital:

Originally named Hudson River State Hospital for the Insane, Hudson River State Hospital has been treating and caring for mentally ill men and women since October 21, 1871.

The grand, High-Victorian Gothic Main building (comprised of the Administrative core and North and South Wings), was designed in 1868 by Messers, {Calvert} Vaux, (Frederick Clarke} Withers, and Co.. The architects worked with the first superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Joseph M. Cleveland, to design an institution that implemented Dr. Thomas Story Kirkbride's plan to create a ideal environment to treat patients.

The site sits atop of a hill along side the scenic Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, New York and although sat abandoned for a great deal of time development plans are underway that include preservation of the Admin core and a few outbuildings. For info regarding the development and preservation efforts please follow PreservationWorks: Hudson on Facebook.
