Description

TIPS FOR WRITING YOUR OWN WEDDING VOWS:

♦ Talk to your fiancee' to ensure that they are on board with you writing personal vows. You don't want to spend a whole lot of time writing personal vows only to find out this is something that your fiancee' is not at all interested in.

♦ Be sure to get clearance from your officiant, as some of them may require you to say certain things (for religious reasons) and they will want to read over them to ensure that it is something they can endorse.

♦ Set a date to be finished writing your wedding vows (preferably not 10 minutes before the ceremony starts) ;). Some people work wonders under pressure, but for the majority, it is going to take time to sit down and think about what your future spouse means to you, why you love them so, and what your promises will be. You don't want to procrastinate and then stand in front of all your dearest friends and family with a noticeably thrown together message.

♦ Be inspired by others. There are millions of poems and songs and stories written about love and marriage that you can easily intersect into your personal vows.

♦ Brainstorm - visit your favorite coffee shop, sit at your dining room table, light a candle - whatever it takes to set the tone. Then just sit down with pen and paper and write down all the reasons why you love your soon-to-be spouse. Jot down your favorite memories and reflect on how you initially met. These thoughts will be a great outline for your own wedding vows.

♦ Think about the overall feeling that you want to set while reading your vows. Do you want to make them cry and / or laugh? Be sure to include a funny story or reflect on a heart-warming memory.

♦ Be mindful of your audience. You may have some awesome pet names and inside jokes that you think are absolutely hilarious, but it is good practice to keep them to a minimum. You don't want the audience to feel like they are listening to a foreign language as you read your wedding vows. :) You want them to be able to relate and appreciate what you are saying about your spouse-to-be.

♦ Keep your vows short and sweet - aim for 1 - 2 minutes long. That may not seem like much time, but when you are up there reading them, those 2 minutes will feel like an eternity. You can definitely fit everything you need to say inside of that time frame. ;)

♦ Practice, practice, practice. It is one of the most important things that you can do. Figure out where you want to pause. Think about parts of the vows that may be funny to your guests and let there be a moment of silence for them to finish laughing. Where do you want to enunciate certain words? Is there a sentence that is a tongue twister? Maybe switch out a couple of the words, slow down, or even break it up into a couple sentences.

♦ Display your wedding vows at your wedding. Your closest friends and family have traveled from near and far to celebrate your wedding day. People anticipate the words that you personally share with each other during the ceremony. Circumstances may prevent them from fully hearing the vows you speak to your spouse - maybe they will need to step out with a fussy child, maybe you will get nervous and speak very quietly, maybe the mic will go out preventing your voice from traveling .... whatever the case, they will be sad that they didn't hear every word of your vows. This is one great reason to have them on display at your wedding ... the reception is a perfect spot for this! Our wedding vow canvases also make great wedding day photo props and of course keepsakes that you both can treasure for many years to come.

Poor communication that delayed receiving the product. She did work with me on the fonts and colors, which turned out nice, but I would never do business with this shop again due to the slow, poor communication.
