Vintage original watercolor landscape painting by L. Vasser Elam (1890 - 1957) in a goldtone frame. Perfect addition to your bungalow or cottage decor or anyone who loves art!

Found in a little old bookshop in Old City Philadelphia, it is framed in a vintage goldtone frame, has the following written on the back:

"Original Water Color by L. Vasser Elam 1890 - 1957 Scene in Mississippi"

The darling painting itself is on heavy watercolor paper and is a little over 4 1/2" x 6 1/2", framed out about 7" x 9". It's gorgeous, with dark greens and light, a setting sun and sunset sky. No doubt the paper has darkened, but the colors still appear very strong. There is no signature so the provenance is entirely based on the writing on the back, not being a professional art appraiser.

L. Vasser Elam is best known as creating the poster for the 100th anniversary of the B & O Railroad in 1927. Reproductions of this poster can be found elsewhere online, and this description is from one them:

THE artist for the poster was L. Vasser Elam and it was created in 1927 for the 100th Anniversary of the B&O Railroad. The Fair of the Iron Horse was held in Halethorpe, Maryland. It was originally planned to run from September 24 through October 8, 1927. It was extended due to popular demand. The large, black locomotive in the poster is the Lord Baltimore while the smaller locomotive is the Tom Thumb. The Tom Thumb, built in 1829, is credited with being the first American-built locomotive to operate in the United States. The Lord Baltimore was not actually built until 1935 and was scrapped by 1949.
