I changed the sewing directions and am much happier with the results of the evenness of the lines sewn down the middle of the blocks. Instead of waiting till the end to sew down the centers (I could not get them straight), I mark permanent lines across and diagonally on the 6 in. sq. scrap fabric, and then line up each set of blocks by opening up the folds completely before pinning. I use a ruler to mark across the center fold of each set of blocks with erasable ink and then sew across from the center bottom of each triangle up to the top point to secure. Then I continue across to the opposite triangle and keep going. When all have been sewn down I mark the circle and proceed as in the directions. It's much more accurate for me doing it this way.

Just what I was looking for and didn't even know it. Becky replied quickly to my questions which got me on my way to making one. It's bigger than the pattern because I fussy cut the piece on the back and didn't want to chop any off. After binding the 5 1/2" coaster, I realize I should have added one more row of prairie points. But it's still cute and I plan to make many more. Becky is a genius!

These turned out adorable. A little time consuming but once you get the hang of it, it should be quicker. Thanks!

I’m an experienced quilter and these instructions need a lot of clarity and rewording to make it easier on the sewist. Example: calling to fold a square in half and in half again and press is fine if that’s actually what is meant, what isn’t stated is that after you get all this pressing done you find out that the author meant *diagonally*. Welp I’ve already pressed all of these things and feel like throwing the whole project in the trash because I hate having to remove pressed-in creases from tiny bits of fabric. I may revisit the project, but likely not for a long time.
