Ghanaian Beaded Stretch Bracelet - Blue mix

Instant download

Lovely stretch bracelet in blue glass beads strung onto clear elastic.

This bracelet is made from Krobo beads responsibly sourced from the female stall holders at the bead market in Accra, Ghana.

The powder glass beads are made by craftspeople from scrap and unused glass objects which are pulverised to powder and placed into individual clay moulds. The stem of a cassava leaf is placed down the middle to create the hole. These are then fired - the powdered glass melts and fuses together to form the bead, and the stem burns away during the process. They are sold at the weekend markets in Krobo itself, and also taken to other markets such as the large bead market in Accra.

These beads support both the incomes of craftspeople in Krobo, a small town in the Eastern Region of Southern Ghana; and also the recycling of glass items in the region.
