Description

Something very rare and highly unusual - a certain curiosity for the scientifically inclined. A beautiful display or unique gift for the fossil hunter or budding paleontologist, or something the cryptozoologist will appreciate. This amazing fossil is a cervical vertebra that once belonged to a now-extinct species of North American tapir. This Tapirus veroensis vertebra was discovered in North Florida, United States of America. Tapirus veroensis fossils found in Northern Alabama were with caribou and peccary fossils, which implies that T. veroensis was capable of living in a temperate climate with subfreezing temperatures. The T. veroensis was most similar to the extant Mountain Tapir. As with all tapir species, T. veroensis had a proboscis used for grabbing branches to eat the foliage. They were herbivores, living on a diet of forest vegetation. They most likely weighed over 600 pounds (270 kilograms) and would have been capable of fending off large predators. For more information on T. veroensis, here is a Wikipedia link that you can copy and paste into your browser:

This exceptional fossil is in a very good state of preservation and has a very attractive color. A nice example with the majority of the processes intact. These are very difficult to find in this quality of condition. Solid and well mineralized. It measures just under 4 inches (10 cm) across. The dome display is a custom Victorian style of our own design. A nice glass bell jar with a vintage decorative Art Nouveau style cast metal base. The vertebra is mounted on a steel rod which is collared at the base by a glazed porcelain fitting and a natural cork platform. The base has not been refinished to retain it's antique character, but it has been coated with a simple clearcoat to stabilize the gold-tone metal plating from immediate further tarnishing. Stands approximately 10 inches tall. The simple oval wood label seen in the first photo comes with your order. A beautiful addition to your cabinet of natural curiosities. Enjoy!

It's a beautiful item in appearance but is not functional. The owner of the shop states that they "gladly accept returns" but that's a lie as they have many stipulations and state that they can essentially refuse refund for any reason they deem fit. Background: I used the item one or two times to check the seal and upon stating that the seal did not really show, I was told that they did not accept the return because the re-sell price would be lower due to the item being used. They also said that they did not "guarantee" anything about the object, so essentially they lied about the functionality of the seal and they didn't want it back probably due to knowing it was poor. Disappointingly money focused seller rather than caring about customer service or the quality of their product.

Elegant Victorian Style Wax Seal Stamp. Floral Pattern Made From Vintage German Cut Glass Ring & Stamp Handle. Comes w/Postable Sealing Wax.
    Curiosity Shopper Crew responded

Unfortunately, the item was used and not returnable. The buyer wanted a deeper impression in wax than the seal we designed makes in wax, and we do understand that. This seal makes a visible impression with a floral pattern but it doesn't make a deep impression. She never told us how deep she wanted it prior to buying so how could we know? The seal was used, the buyer also admitted to cleaning it, and she acknowledged using up a portion of the sealing wax sold with it. Under those circumstances we did not accept a return. We pleasantly explained this and offered video instruction to help make a more successful seal. The buyer thanked us kindly and that was the last we heard of it until this review. We have not misled the buyer. It just can't be returned so used.

Returns and exchange details

REFUNDS:
We refund the purchase amount only. Shipping on either end is not refunded. We will gladly exchange items but new shipping will apply. Custom work is non-refundable. If there is a design problem with the custom item, we will rework it or give you a credit. Please contact us regarding custom work.

RETURNS:
If for some reason you are unhappy with your purchase please contact us within 5 days of receipt to request a refund. Returns shipped without prior arrangement and open Etsy conversations (convos) to establish our agreement for the reason for the return will not be accepted and a refund will not be processed. We do not offer order cancellations or a "cooling off period" during which a buyer may change his or her mind and expect to receive a refund. Please note that we do not offer a return and refund option for every reason. For example, we do not offer a guaranty of fit for any of the vintage eyewear we offer in our shop. Eyewear is listed with dimensions and offered for collectability only; fit is the sole responsibility of the buyer. We can not offer any guaranty that any of the antique or vintage items purchased are compatible with any private project, so we do not offer refunds and returns based on incompatibility with a private project. If a return is agreed upon, purchased items must be returned in the original condition in which they were sent within 7 days of the delivery of the item(s). Late returns will be unopened and refused and returned to sender. Insurance is required for all returns. Uninsured returns will not be accepted. No returns on custom items. We will rework the item or you will have a credit.
