Description

Here’s a fabulous addition to a Mid Century kitsch collection: A 6.25” tall salt-glazed blue porcelain anthropomorphic mouse figurine and her little baby that were made in the 1950s with great attention to detail by a talented artist at Arnart Creations of Japan.

Compared to others I’ve seen online this momma mouse, who remains in excellent vintage condition, is very well done — from the consistent application of her salt glaze to the precision painting of each white polka dot on her red bow tie. You can tell her expressive facial features were applied with both care and talent, and she has much more highlighting details than others.

The bright and colorful mommy mouse stands just over 6.25” tall, measures 3.5” from the front of her toes to the back of her upturned tail, and about 2.5” in the opposite direction. The baby mouse is 2.5” tall, 1.75” wide across the ears and measures about 1” in the opposite direction.

The mom has no chips, cracks, crazing or signs of repair — just some dust in the nooks and crannies of her salt glaze. At first I thought the thumb of her upraised right hand was broken off, as is often the case with this particular figurine. But upon inspection you can tell it was not fully formed during her creation, as there’s pink glaze there. She retains the loop on her chest that once held a chain leash connecting her to two baby mice.

The one remaining baby’s chest loop is broken off, but there are no other issues of note besides some small spots of missing blue glaze that may or may not date to its creation (they appear to be under-glaze, but I can’t tell for sure!). The baby’s eyes are adorable — just like mom’s!

Stamped on the underside of momma mouse is the crossed arrows hallmark of Arnart Creations and the number “7621.” I believe she originally had a foil label marked “Japan.” Seen stamped in red on the baby’s underside are the last two letters of the word “Japan.” Interestingly, both mice have glazed interiors (seen through the holes on their undersides).

Please use zoom mode to check out details in the photos, as they play an important role in the item’s description. And please don’t hesitate to convo me if you have questions about this item or would like to see more pictures before buying, as I want you to be 100% pleased with your purchase!

Shipping policies

Your item will be packaged with utmost care, using clean recycled items like bubble wrap and boxes when possible. Doing so reduces shipping costs and pleases Mother Nature. I’m confident you’ll be pleased when your package arrives!

I charge only actual shipping fees using primarily U.S. Post Office Priority Mail service, which has proven to be speedy and reliable (and automatically includes tracking and insurance up to $100). Large, heavy items are typically shipped via FedEx Home Delivery service.

Know that I have a great track record for getting orders shipped out within one business day (oftentimes within hours!) of payment confirmation.

If you’d like me to use a faster shipping service, a cheaper shipping method, to add insurance or arrange for signature confirmation please just convo me prior to shipping and I’ll gladly recalculate costs!

And combined shipping? For sure! If you don't convo me before buying, no problem: I promptly issue refunds for shipping overages of $2 and up.

All listed shipping prices are for the contiguous United States. Please convo for rates to Alaska, Hawaii and international destinations prior to purchase. Please bear in mind that international buyers are responsible for all customs duties, taxes, levies or fees — and that the shop is not responsible for delays due to customs.
