Description

Gorgeous blue, green and gold flash to this piece of labradorite / spectrolite stone.
Comes from Madagascar.

Highly polished on both sides that shows off the vibrant flash or fire in the stone.
Unusual purple and mauve colors in this piece.
Pictures do not capture all the true beauty of this piece.

Good for wire wrapping for a focal pendant. Add a glued on bale or drill it.
Possibly continued to be cut into multiple pieces.

Measures approximately 2" and 1/4" thick
Weighs 13.9 grams =69.5 carats

Labradorite is an astonishing stone. It seems to be a modest, ordinary, dull, dark gray rock without any remarkable qualities; then in handling a piece, one tilts it just the right way, and suddenly it is aflame with the shimmering blue iridescence of a tropical butterfly wing or the sparkle of gold dust. This stone symbolizes and reminds us of the hidden beauty that can be found in improbable-looking places, or the spiritual richness that can be concealed in apparently uninteresting aspects of everyday life.

According to an Eskimo legend, the Northern Lights were once imprisoned in the rocks along the coast of Labrador. It is told that a wandering Eskimo warrior found them and was able to free most of the lights with a mighty blow of his spear. Some of the lights were still trapped within the stone, and thus we have today the beautiful mineral known as labradorite.
