Description

Promotion SALE for my new collection! Was $25.00, now $20.00.This listing is for "Dune", a handmade vintage reBAUBLED necklace measuring 21", the exact necklace shown in photos. I use vintage beads mainly from the 1940s-1970s (sometimes I also use ones a tad older or younger, but always vintage) to give you an artsy necklace that reflects colors and patterns of the sea &/or seashore. The strength of "Dune" is it's neutrality, pairing well with navy, aqua, and other blues as well as black, gray, green, shades of brown, etc. Each necklace from my Seaside Spree Story Collection has a certain theme & inspiration behind the reBAUBLING!
Seaside.... It's an older term so it fits with the feel of my creations that incorporate vintage beads. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, people called what we call the "beach" today the "sea side." You will notice this on very old postcards. Many coastal areas had, and luckily some still have, marshes, barrier islands, and inlets that separated the mainland from the sea. So the first land's edge next to the water, like the an area that faced a creek or marsh with a barrier island on the other side of the water, was called the beach. Sea side was just what it says, the land that stood beside the actual sea. The coast of South Carolina has many wonderful areas like this.
Spree....Unrestricted indulgence, an outburst of activity. My favorite activity is to go to the Seaside, the ultimate indulgence for me! There is always an outburst of activity there, whether I am a spectator to the outburst, sitting in the sand watching the waves, birds, people, or imagining the life that teems beneath the waters . And most times I am very active myself, swimming the sea or beachcombing.
SO...there you have it, the meaning behind Seaside Spree! Love creating using as much vintage supplies as I can. Gives you an unusual piece with built in history. Each listing has a story of what the assemblage represents, always related to the SEA & Seaside. Often the necklaces are not symmetrical, providing what I like to call "funky chunkys" ! This listing is for 21" necklace I have fondly named "Dune".
The reBAUBLED Story: Dune
"Dune" , a reBAUBLED vintage bead necklace, has a unique story of inspiration as does every reBAUBLED piece I create!
I love how the coast and water are constantly changing, even within the same day. The dunes are no exception and they are gifts of art that are constantly being sculpted by the wind & water. Dunes are fundamental to the survival of our coast and our life on the coast. The darker hues in this necklace ground it. The swirl patterns & speckles are characteristic of "dune art". Some dunes, like on the South Carolina coast, have golden sea oats. Others, like on Sanibel Island, are a tropical, succulent bed of varied & unusual plants. All serve to hold the sand as part of the shore. Golden sea oats were the inspiration for the deep gold beads. Love the way the dunes frame the water view ahead. Nothing like meandering over a dune to get you ready for the treasure that lies ahead.
The colors incorporated into "Dune " are a taupe with a nod to gray, cream tan, darker beige tan, a brown gold that leans toward mustard, and a darker deep brown gold that has speckles of cream and brownish black. OH so organic & earthy! I mean you can't be too polished at the beach! The gold angled bead on the right side catches the light. Some beads also have speckling that give the impression of sand and beach stones. Finishes range from matte to pearlish to shiny in order to provide interest and depth. Chain is approximately 21" gunmetal and on the average person the top of the center bead will hang about 3.5-4" below the adam's apple opening. This fits well most clothing necklines, whether a rounded, scoop, or open collared. Varigated colors gives it versatility. For example, any one color in the necklace can tie it to your outfit if you are wearing a hue in the same color family. Versatile!
I use gunmetal plated over brass. This is a thin but strong chain. The black gunmetal shade reminds me of the color of marsh pluff mud in the lowcountry and shade looks good with silver, antique silver, or gold adds to versatility of the necklace. I use vintage beads in my creations, dating from the 1940s-80s with most being mid century, 50s-70s range.
The Seaside Spree Story Collection and "Dune" are original creations and property of mine and can not be reproduced.
