Description

With a neutral base of dark and light brown, blue flowers dancing around the belly, and a statement swoop of a handle, this mug is a great combination of modern elegance and functionality. The top tapers in a bit to keep your drinks hotter for longer, and the large handle allows for plenty of room while keeping your hands comfortably cool.

I threw this piece on the wheel using card tools I made myself to create the lined horizontal textures on the top third of the mug. As it dried some, I used a polymer clay stamp I made to create the floral motif. I flipped the mug over to trim out the bottom and sign it with my signature F-hole stamp, and added the two part handle before leaving it to dry completely for firing.

I fired this first to approximately 1900 degrees Fahrenheit, which is known as a biscuit firing, or more commonly a bisque firing. This turns the clay to ceramics, which makes it permeable to accept the watery glaze without turning back into clay. Then, I decorated this piece with hand mixed glazes. I make all of my own food safe glazes, and only use natural colorants except for one glaze - almost no stains are used in my pieces to get their colors. Once it's completely glazed, I put it back in the kiln and fire to its finishing temperature, which is a little over 2200 degrees Fahrenheit, or between cones 5-6.

This piece is food and microwave safe, but to ensure many years of drinking pleasure, please only hand wash when cleaning. Many of my glazes show a crackling over time - this is a characteristic of the glaze, and does not harm the functionality of my piece in any way. Due to the handmade nature of my ceramics, no two pieces are alike - this is the beauty of handmade!

At nearly 4 inches tall and almost 3 inches wide at the mouth, this mug can comfortably hold 12 ounces of your preferred beverage.

Returns & exchanges

Please make sure to open your package and inspect it carefully to ensure there's no damage, and please keep all packing materials until you fully check out your goods. If you find any damage, please make sure to send me photos within 48 hours so we can work together for your refund.

I put a lot of time into each and every piece, and I want you to love them just as much as I do. Keep in mind that all computer monitors show colors a little differently, so items might look slightly different in person than they are on your screen.

If you don't love your purchase for whatever reason, you can get in contact with me and ship it back to me within 5 days of receiving your item. Buyer is responsible for any costs incurred to ship the item back. Please use all original packaging materials when shipping it back to make sure it arrives safely. Once I receive the item back and ensure it hasn't been damaged, I'll refund you in full.

Shipping policies

All pieces will be packed carefully due to the fragile nature of shipping ceramics, and this is why my shipping prices might seem high. I use mostly new boxes, but will reuse boxes if I deem them structurally sound. All pieces are wrapped with bubble wrap or corrugated cardboard, and I reuse as much packing material as I can. I then pack the boxes with biodegradable peanuts so your pieces have a comfy bed for their journey to your hands.

All of my work is ready to ship, and will be sent out 1-3 days after your payment clears. I ship items USPS Priority with tracking included. All pieces are insured. I ship items out 2-3 times a week. If you need your items rush shipped to you, please contact me prior to purchasing so that I can work out the shipping rate for you.

I'd like to think you'll get your items much sooner than this, but please allow the post office up to 5 business days to deliver your item. Patience is a virtue (that I'm still working on). I appreciate your understanding with this!

I will be shipping to the address that comes through on Etsy. If you pay with PayPal, please make sure to double check your shipping address on Etsy when checking out. If you need the item shipped to a different address, please put this in the "note to seller" when purchasing your item.

To save paper, I won't include an Etsy receipt unless you request one. If this is a gift, let me know if you'd like me to add a gift note for you. You can add the details in the "note to seller" when checking out.

At this time, I don't ship internationally. Sorry!

Additional policies

My work is meant to be used, but it's all handmade, so you'll want to use it gently. All items are food safe and microwavable. You can use my ceramics in the oven, as long as you put the piece into a cold oven and heat everything up together - putting cold ceramics on a hot oven rack will almost ensure it breaking. While my items are dish washer safe, you'll want to hand wash them to preserve them longer. Make sure not to pour boiling water from a stove top or coffee brewer directly into your cup - pre-warming them with hot tap water before pouring your coffee or tea in them will warm up the ceramics and keep them around for your beverages longer.

Now that THAT'S all done, you can head over to the bounty: etudepottery.etsy.com

Please give a holler if there's anything I haven't addressed.
