Description

Seventea Studios I Art Collection is an original clothing and merchandise collection designed by visual artist Apostolos Polymeris.

"Paleomammalian Cortex" is a psychedelic illustration based on the anatomy of the human brain.
The concept design is taking place in a fictional aquarium in the middle of the human brain where the limbic system is.

The limbic system also refered as the "Paleomammalian Cortex", is a set of brain structures located on both sides of the thalamus, immediately beneath the cerebrum. It includes the olfactory bulbs, hippocampus, hypothalamus, amygdala, anterior thalamic nuclei, fornix, columns of fornix, mammillary body, septum pellucidum, habenular commissure, cingulate gyrus, parahippocampal gyrus, limbic cortex, and limbic midbrain areas.

The hippocampus has two hippocampi, one on the left and one on the right that resemble as a pair of bananas, joined at the stems by the commissure of fornix. The hippocampus belongs to the limbic system and plays important roles in the consolidation of information from short-term memory to long-term memory, and in spatial memory that enables navigation.

The final design is a psychedelic representation of "the gate of the limbic system" where the hippocampi receive the information from the short-term memory and transfer it to the long-term memory. The informations are represented by the illuminated hooks-question marks. The information has to be hooked because if not is going to be missed. The informations could be anything, even something unknown to our conscious mind. And the informations are more than the number that they hippocampi can manage. And this make sense if you think that your brain stores only a small part of the total information that you receive daily.

The shrimp carries the informations to the hippocampus. Shrimps can move really fast in an aquarium and they don't have a specific spot where they stay. They love to go around everywhere in an aquarium. They always search for food, while they change and clean the surface and they are able to carry larger food pieces with their feet. The Shrimp plays perfectly the role of the "messenger".
