* HOW MERAKI JEWELLERY IS MADE *

I created this bracelet through the process of electroforming. This particular type of alchemy involves slowly growing copper around my jewellery. By using a completed electrical current in a special, well balanced solution, I'm able to attract copper to the surface of anything I choose. The way in which I "grow" my copper is very unique so not a single piece of jewellery can ever be exactly replicated. This means that you'll be the only one in the world to ever own this exact piece. Before starting the electroforming process, I design and hand sculpt around every piece, making sure it looks perfect before I begin it's growth in my electroforming tank. A lot of patience and attention to detail is needed once the electroforming process begins as I frequently check the piece over the course of 1 to 5 days. All of my designs are formed with exceptionally thick layers of pure copper as each piece spends no less than 12 hours and oftentimes up to 60+ hours in my electroforming tank. This creates a extremely durable piece unlike flash plating (a method commonly used to produce cheap jewellery with a very thin layer of metal that can typically be scratched right off). Once the piece is fully formed in thick, pure copper I sand and hand polish all of my jewellery. To give pieces an antiqued look, I then dip and hand paint on various patinas. Some patinas I develop for a few minutes, others for many days at a time. A final polish is then carried out to bring out the lovely highs and lows for increased shine and depth. The final step is to add a non toxic, skin safe sealant which protects the copper and reduces the risk of tarnishing. This sealant has a very high strength and requires a full 3 days to cure before the jewellery can be worn.

* This bracelet was made with every ounce of love within me which is why I named my brand Meraki Jewellery. Meraki means to do something with soul, creativity or love, leaving a piece of yourself in what you're doing. That sums up how I feel about every single piece that I make to be worn by you amazing lovers of one of a kind jewellery. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message anytime *

FAQs

Like all of your other jewellery, your Meraki jewellery should be worn with care and respect. It is recommended to avoid getting your jewellery wet for prolonged periods. For best maintenance, your jewellery should be removed before showering, washing hands, swimming etc. Your Meraki jewellery can be cleaned with gentle soaps and then thoroughly dried but exposure to chemicals and lotions should be avoided. A soft pouch is included with every order so you can store your jewellery in this when it is not being worn if you wish.
All Meraki jewellery is sealed with a clear, skin safe protective coating to preserve the condition of the jewellery and prevent oxidation. With consistent wear it is normal for the protective coating to slowly wear off, particularly with but not limited to, the insides of rings. Don't be surprised this is natural! To prevent oxidation it is suggested to reseal your jewellery in a clear poly acrylic paint or spray as you see fit. Alternatively, many prefer to let the sealant fade over time (as copper has natural, therapeutic properties) and in this case the copper rings may react with some people's skin which will leave a natural green tint on the finger. This is harmless and is easily washed off with some gentle soap and water.
