Thank you for interest in Works in Clay Pottery. As a reminder, here are some important things to remember about Raku Pottery so that you enjoy our Raku Pottery for years to come!

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Every piece is handmade by the clay artist in her Florida ceramic studio either on the potters wheel or by hand-building techniques. Each piece is 100% handmade work of art and is hand signed, or hand stamped by the artist.

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT RAKU POTTERY:

Raku pottery is an art form that is created with many variables from the glazes, the atmosphere in the gas kiln, to the reduction of glazes after the gas firing. All pieces are 100% unique. Each item has special effects achieved with Raku metallic glazes and the firing. Glaze results vary in each firing and may not always achieve the same result. Since the Raku pottery is fired red hot to 1950 degrees F, sometimes there are cracks in the glazes as they expereince extreme shock and temperature change in the reduction phase that brings out the metallic colors - this is normal for Raku pottery. These marks or characteristics are part of the specialness of Raku and are not defects. Note that I do my best to represent the colors of my work in the photographs and description of the items but each computer has different color settings so your computer screens may vary slightly from the actual piece.

CARE & HANDLING RAKU ITEMS: Raku is for decorative use only. The clay once fired is hard, but still porous. Please hand wash with mild detergent, but please do not soak in water.

FAQs

Raku is one of the most beautiful expressions of pottery because of its dramatic metallic and colorful effects. But it is important to note, Raku is for decorative use only. It is not food safe or water tight and as the clay once fired is hard but still porous, please hand wash with mild detergent, but please do not soak in water.
RETURN POLICIES: I want you to be happy and love your purchases from our shop, but please shop carefully as I like to spend more time creating new works in my pottery studio rather than processing returns. I have a professional photographer taking high quality photos of my pieces so you can see exactly what you are buying. If you have an issue and really need to return an item, please convo me with your request for a return authorization.

Refunds are only issued once the item is returned to me in its original condition (undamaged and unbroken).

Shipping costs are not refundable - refunds will be made less the original shipping costs.

Buyer pays return shipping. We recommend that you ship returns with insurance incase of breakage.
REFUNDS DUE TO DAMAGE: Refunds due to shipping damage will be made if requested within two weeks of receipt. Please save the item and packing materials to verify damage for a shipping claim. A photo of the broken packaging is required for credit as we have to file a claim with the shipping company. Thanks as pictures are always helpful and appreciated. We will refund the cost of the item as well as shipping costs if the item is damaged in shipping to you.
Raku means "enjoyment", "comfort" or "ease" and was started in Japan with the inspiration to create unique wares for their traditional tea ceremonies. Raku pottery is a very unique ceramic art form created with many variables from the glazes, the atmosphere in the gas kiln, to the reduction of glazes after the gas firing. All pieces are 100% unique. Each item has special effects achieved with Raku metallic glazes and the firing - glaze results vary in each firing and may not always achieve the same result.
The Raku pottery process is unique - the kiln is fired to 1900 degrees F, and the pottery is removed from the kiln while the pieces are red hot and placed in metal cans with combustible materials to bring out the spectacular metallic colors that are unique to Raku pottery. While in the cans, the combustible material ignites with red hot flames around the pottery. Once ignited, the can is sealed shut so that the smoke and fire burn which creates unique effects between the flames and the glazes.

Note that pieces may also have tong marks, cracks, and other marks from combustible material and extreme temperature changes - this is normal for Raku pottery. These marks or characteristics are part of the specialness of Raku and are not defects.
