Ricoh 35 S with New Light Seals. Ready-To-Use Vintage 1960s Rangefinder Camera with Limited capabilities

Description

This Ricoh is a fully manual rangefinder camera with a selenium (solar) powered light meter. It is of similar build and weight of, for instance, the earlier - larger - Canon Canonets.

Metering functions perfectly, as does aperture settings and everything mechanical. However two things on this particular camera are problematic - though not making it obsolete. (If you fall in love with this camera, it can be serviced to full working order by a camera shop in your, or a neighbouring country for something like EUR 100.) The first problem is the slower times from 1/30th to 1/4th of a second. They are very unreliable. Faster times are good. So, daylight photography is no problem. The second problem is that the film winder sometimes only winds the film a little bit, making double exposure a problem. The winder not pulling enough you can feel, though, so you only have to take a picture into your shirt and then wind again, missing perhaps half a frame of unexposed film.

These characteristics aside, this camera is a lovable gem.

You get: A clean camera with new light seals; shoulder strap; a 100 ASA b&w Fomapan film.

---

A note on the condition of the camera: I clean lenses and viewfinders as much as possible, but lenses are not disassembled to be cleaned. There is almost always dust inside viewfinders, but it is very rarely a problem. I replace all light seals on the cameras I sell. ALL old light seals are a potential source of dust and smear inside the camera when older than 30 years. On some models light might seep onto the film if the seals are old and shrunken. The camera you buy is ready to use the instant you load it with a roll of film. The camera you buy is vintage, which means it may have been used and also the materials have aged consequently. Consider these facts when ordering a vintage product.

---

The light seals are meticulously replaced and new batteries are added for instant usage.

---

A note on batteries: Most vintage cameras are sold without batteries. Often batteries are a hassle to get hold of. getOurBooks supplies you purchase with the correct battery.

The seller was kind enough to contact me and promised to resolve the issue.

This is an update of my review. I was given a refund for the issue and I’m very happy about the courteous service. I ordered another product (see image) - it came just today and so glad it came as described. I’m a Happy camper. Thanks Tobias.
