Description

This lovely pendant is hand crafted with a polished cabochon of blue lace agate and .925 sterling silver. The bail is large enough to accommodate a good sized chain.

Blue lace agate is a member of the chaledony family and is a form of microcyrstaline quartz. The beautiful blue color in blue lace agate is cause by copper salts in the mix. Many of the patterned chalcedonies are commonly called agate and this beautiful specimen was only recently discovered.

Blue lace agate was discovered in 1967 on a farm in Namibia which was called South West Africa at the time. George Swanson found it and owned the farm, Ysterputs Farm. He called it a "gem of Ecology" because of swirling blue and white reminded him of the earth and the clouds. Some of the best material still comes from a narrow seam on the farm.

Like all other species of the quartz family, blue lace agate is commonly polished and made into beautiful jewelry and other crafted items
