Description

Calligraphy of Geese
This silk hanging contains a haiku by the famous 18th century painter and poet Buson, that led me to this design.

"Calligraphy of Geese
against the sky.
The moon seals it."

Many years ago I had the unforgettable midnight experience of watching migrating geese, in multiple formations, flying through scudding clouds, silhouetted by a full moon.
The scroll is hand printed on silk noil, hand sewn and is about 6 inches wide, about 33 inches long, which includes the black nylon cord with a little brass bell. It may be hung in your garden, in a tree or under a porch or deck overhang, creating a quiet healing force.. Silk is a most wonderful fabric and doesn't mildew. Kimonos that are 5,000 years old, and look as beautiful today as they did when new, are living testimony to the resilience of silk.
If exposed to the elements in time the silk may become 'earthtiqued' and can later be buried in your garden, as it is a protein fiber and will nourish the soil. Bring in during winter storms.
If you wash your scroll may be cleaned (using mild soap or shampoo) you may iron it on the back side on a 'cotton' setting.
The first Japanese gardens were simple clearings in the woods, spread with white sand and marked with only a rice fiber rope. These silk banners were inspired by this deep appreciation of nature and the geomantic laws of FENG SHUI.
