Description

Promotion SALE, was $25.00, now $20.00. I use all true vintage beads for my necklaces. " Starry Night Captiva" is a vintage bead reBAUBLED necklace measuring approximately 19". Mysterious & versatile. Delicate but packs a visual punch. To give you an idea of scale, the center silver focal bead measures about 3/4" in diameter while the deep dark blue starry beads on each side are about 7/8" wide. From my Seaside Spree Story Collection, jewelry creations repurposing vintage beads from the 40s-70s. (Sometimes I will throw in a later vintage bead, like from the 80s, if it contributes to the vision!) If you want, you can read the vision behind this collection later in listing. ***

"Starry Night Captiva", a reBAUBLED vintage bead necklace, has a unique story of inspiration as does every reBAUBLED piece I create!
CAPTIVA! If you have ever stood on Captiva on a clear night at the edge of the sea, your world has opened up, flat out wide and broad! With the lack of light pollution, the dark sky now becomes a mirage of layers of stars so bright and magical, well it puts you in your place and at the same time, transports you to the ethereal. The 2 very dark blue vintage beads were so worthy! They are of Japanese origin, made in the mid century. Their layers of varied speckles have a light blue silver tone and mimic perfectly the night sky. Some "stars" look closer while others are smaller and "further away." The darkness of these two beads also remind me of the dark sea at night or the abyss, the deepest parts of the ocean that have yet to be much explored. The silver focal bead is like the moon that has a sheen of subtle haze. Made for those who have stood at the edge where sky & sea meet at night and want a little memory, to bottle what they experienced. We all need "take me away" moments like this in our lives. God knew we needed places like this. When you can't get there or need to be taken back for a moment of therapy, this little jewel will help!
If you have been blessed enough to have visited Sanibel/Captiva, this necklace evokes wonderful evening memories of these natural sea gems! Ahhh, island life....
The vintage deep blue starry beads have a mellow sheen while the vintage silver bead as more bling, but not too shiny, just a beautiful glow. The variety of finishes had depth to the necklace. Very comfortable to wear. Surprisingly, my necklaces will pair with a lot of colors. If one bead has one shade or tone in your shirt or dress, it will be pulled out and tie in. This particular necklace would go well with black, white, navy, light blue, gray, charcoal...looks great with a t-shirt/blue jean outfit but the silver bling and texture allow you to dress it up.
This necklace is a tad shorter than some of my others, with the top of the center bead falling about 21/4" below the dip in my neck below the Adam's apple. Nice shorter length working well with rounded or slit open neck shirts, collared shirts, t-shirts...very versatile and comfortable.

I use gunmetal plated over brass. This is a thin but strong chain. The black gunmetal shade reminds me of the color of marsh pluff mud in the lowcountry and shade looks good with silver, antique silver, or gold & adds to versatility of the necklace. I use vintage beads in my creations, dating from the 1940s-70s with most being mid century, 50s-60s range. Sometimes a will use a later but still vintage bead if it can contribute to the look I am going for.
The Seaside Spree Story Collection and "Starry Night Captiva" are original creations and property of mine and can not be reproduced.
***Seaside Spree Story Collection***
Seaside.... It's an older term so it fits with the feel of my creations that incorporate vintage beads. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, people called what we call the "beach" today the "sea side." You will notice this on very old postcards. Many coastal areas had, and luckily some still have, marshes, barrier islands, and inlets that separated the mainland from the sea. So the first land's edge next to the water, like the an area that faced a creek or marsh with a barrier island on the other side of the water, was called the beach. Sea side was just what it says, the land that stood beside the actual sea. The coast of South Carolina has many wonderful areas like this.
Spree....Unrestricted indulgence, an outburst of activity. My favorite activity is to go to the Seaside, the ultimate indulgence for me! There is always an outburst of activity there, whether I am a spectator to the outburst, sitting in the sand watching the waves, birds, people, or imagining the life that teems beneath the waters . And most times I am very active myself, swimming the sea or beachcombing.
SO...there you have it, the meaning behind Seaside Spree! Love creating using as much vintage supplies as I can. Gives you an unusual piece with built in history. Each listing has a story of what the assemblage represents, always related to the SEA & Seaside. Often the necklaces are not symmetrical, providing what I like to call "funky chunkys" !
