Description

Here is a wonderful art print by Ben Shahn, called WCTU Parade. That is, Women's Christian Temperance Union. The original painting dates back to the 1933-34.

Before there were Pussy Hats, these women were crusaders, not for the vote, but for temperance, prohibition. But they were a remarkable force of women seeking a voice in the national dialogue.

This is an outstanding example of American realism - the vivid personality and lively colors speak to a uniquely American vitality.

Shahn was dissatisfied with the European modernists; he found their work unoriginal. In response, Shahn directed his efforts toward a realist style which he used to contribute to social dialogue.

This print would make a special gift for a friend.

The image measures is 7.5 by 5.5 inches. The page measures 8.5 by 7 inches. There is some border around the print to make it easy to frame.

This page was rescued from an exhibition catalog of Shahn's work.

Available plain, with mat or with mat and frame (8 by 10). Choose your option at check-out. This is ready to plop in a frame and hang in your studio for inspiration.

I'll mail in a sturdy package to get safely to you.
