In the 1800’s it was a tradition for the father of the groom to give the bride a custom-made wood bowl as a wedding gift. The bride used it for just about everything, and when she passed on, her daughters often fought over who would inherit it.

Does your family have such a bowl? Perhaps now is the time to get one. Or maybe your son is getting married, and his father would like to give a custom-made wood bowl to his new daughter-in-law.

Whatever the reason you are buying one of our bowls, be it to celebrate a wedding, anniversary, new house, Mother or Father’s day, etc., and, however you intend it to be used, be it salads, bread, popcorn, fruit, muffins, roasted vegetables, it will serve it up with love, style, and warmth.

Shown in ambrosia maple, if you intend to use the bowl for everything, we recommend you choose a durable wood that can handle salad dressings, oils, and sauces such as black walnut, cherry, ambrosia maple, or regular walnut. Spalted maple is spectacular wood and should be used to serve only dry goods, i.e. bread and fruit. Or you can let me pick the most beautiful wood in the studio.

The bowls are soaked in pure walnut oil for a strong, food-safe protective finish. They are easy to care for. After use, wipe down with lukewarm water, wipe dry, and place on the countertop overnight to dry completely. If necessary, you can put a mild soap in the water. Just be sure to rinse carefully.

We work exclusively with discarded wood, the majority of which spalted. Caught at just the right time, spalted wood is magnificent to look at, lasts for generations and ensures that each piece is one-of-a-kind.

The bowls are 2.5-3"h x 9.5"d.
