Description

This is a modern hand-thrown raku vase with shades of red, orange, brown, and green colors on a black matt background. Fill it with branches and twigs or display it as a work of art.

Raku is porous, you will have to put a glass or other vessel inside to use it with live flowers. I make them as stand-alone art pieces.

It is raku’s unpredictable results and intense and subtle colors that attracted me.

In simple terms:

Raku's patterns and color result from the harsh cooling process and the amount of oxygen that is allowed to reach the pottery. The pottery is put from a gas kiln at 1800 degrees to a barrel filled with combustible material, such as newspaper, covered, and allowed to smoke. After a couple of minutes, it is put in water cooling the pottery, stopping the chemical reactions of the glaze and fixing the colors. The combustible material results in smoke, which stains the unglazed portions black and producing cracks in the glaze.

Each piece is hand thrown and is one-of-a-kind.

It is 4 inches tall and 5.5 inches at the widest point

To be enjoyed for many years.

If you want to purchase more than one item email me. I'll list more than 1 as a group which you can then purchase. This can reduce the shipping costs.

Please contact me with any questions.

I hope you enjoyed looking.
