Description

******SOLD***** Dragonfly Mosaic Installation (Commission)

This mosaic was designed to decorate a round concrete cover for a coal cellar in the front yard of a town house on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. It is composed of glass tile (both Smalti hand-poured Italian tile and stained glass tile), rough and polished stones, slate tile, marble, and miscellaneous other materials. The mosaic was specifically designed for this front garden; it was created in my workshop on a mesh backing material, and then installed on-site onto the concrete round.

The round design measures about 27" in diameter, and there is a lip/border which comes down 3" all around the circumferance.

This mosaic was an original designed in consultation with the customers, and it includes a piece of metal/stone which belonged to them & which they wanted incorporated into the design. The dragonfly itself is composed mostly of regular and iridescent smalti tile, with some round fused glass pieces. The surrounding area is largely stained glass tile, with small groupings of various stone and shells rising up from the surface. The surrounding border and lip on the side is made with slate tile and tumbled marble. The entire mosaic was grouted and sealed, and then covered with a clear acrylic layer to protect it from weather conditions.

This mosaic was a commission & is not for sale. It is listed as an example of the type of piece/installation I am able to provide. I welcome any questions if you'd like to discuss a possible commission. I am happy to work with you to make your ideas into realities.

Cost estimates are dependent on the size, complexity of design, type of materials and method of installation necessary.
