Description

The centerpiece of this necklace is a pretty yellow spiral lampwork bead. A double strand of fire polished sky blue opal beads, cobalt blue glass discs, red lentil beads, red and cobalt blue fire polished beads along with yellow beads. There are also cream colored glass prongs and spacer beads in sterling silver and silver plate. The yellow beads were found at an antique show and I am not certain what they are (my best guess is yellow agate) but I think they really fit well with this look. The necklace is finished with a silver plated pewter twist hook and twist rings. The shorter strand is approximately 22" long (including clasp) and the longer strand is approximately 24" (including clasp).

Recently I read about jewelry removed from ancient viking sites. Some of these items were made using brightly colored beads, others were more earthy looking. I was fascinated with the thought of a person collecting beads in a pouch until having enough to make a piece of jewelry. For some reason it surprised me to see some of these ancient necklaces in very bright colors such as yellow and red. One of my own interpretations of this idea is shown here.

Although I like to use components found at antique shows and flea markets I also create pieces using entirely new elements. This necklace is a combination of new beads, clasp and rings along with the yellow beads from an antique show find.

COMPONENTS: handmade lampwork spiral bead; Czech glass prong beads; 4mm fire polished glass beads; 6mm Czech glass disc and lentil beads; 4-6mm antique show agate beads; silver plated pewter twist hook clasp and ring

SIZE: approximately 24" including clasp

I will send this item in a small box to protect it during shipping.
