Description

Satisfaction guaranteed for these lively, well-established kefir grains. Grains born in my kitchen now live in more than 1,600 homes in all 50 states, 1 U.S. territory...and counting!

I will provide you with a link to download your instructions (check your shipping confirmation email from Etsy) and I am always happy to answer questions both before and after you receive the grains. I have had the joy of witnessing kefir change many lives through healing digestion and enhancing immune function. Homemade kefir is an affordable and highly effective way to inoculate the gut with probiotics and beneficial yeasts. In my opinion, it is the easiest fermented food to make at home - and I make several! Kefir is loaded with beneficial microbes and is much healthier than yogurt (see below for more details).

Be prepared for these grains to grow rather quickly over time! I use raw organic whole milk from grass fed cows to feed my grains. They will produce a pleasantly tangy and fizzy kefir and may be used with any type of milk: raw, pasteurized, whole, skim, and non-dairy (coconut, almond, rice, soy, etc). When transitioning between milk types, allow 2-3 days for culturing time to return to normal as the grains adjust to the new environment.

The kefir rule of thumb is "one teaspoon of grains per cup of milk per day." So...1 teaspoon cultures 1 cup in 1 day, 1 tablespoon (equal to 3 teaspoons) cultures 3 cups in 1 day, and so on. And trust me - these little guys like to multiply! To speed up culturing, you can give your jar a stir once every several hours and store it in a warm-ish place (on top of the fridge works great). You can also leave some "starter" kefir from the previous batch when beginning a new batch.

Grains are shipped in BPA-free plastic bags and are well padded during transit. If you're interested, check out my shop page for kombucha SCOBY's and sourdough starter!

Here's to your health!

Shipped promptly, arrived in good condition. My first batch tasted bitter, but I did some googling about why and the next batch was perfect. Turns out I didn't do a good enough job at draining the grains from their travel brew. That step is really important! I ended up fishing them out with a spoon rather than draining them. Seller recommends using a strainer with big holes, and that is good advice. I couldn't get to the store so used my smaller grained strainer the first time. Fishing them out for the next batch worked fine. Very much enjoying my daily Kefir in the mornings. Comes with instructions on how to get your new grains happy and making kefir. Don't worry if your first batch isn't to your taste. That's totally normal as these little guys learn to love their new home.

Absolutely fantastic kefir!! This is my first try at kefir and it took me a little while to figure it out but this starter hung in there with me and I finally have some delicious kefir! I’ve put some maple syrup, vanilla, and cinnamon in this finished batch and it’s just perfect. My toddler and I are going to have all the kefir we can stand! I got so much support with this order, I wish I could tip!! Lol. She was so helpful and patient with me and I really appreciate all the help. I will definitely be coming back and ordering more from here!

Thank you so much!!! This was exactly as described after speaking with the kind seller to confirm the quality I was looking for. I received a culture that was fresh and sweet-smelling. The chucks where solid fluffy little clouds. I placed them straight into some raw milk. I did not use the first batch, I never do, as I like to wake them up a bit after their travels, it was tempting though, because it smelled so fresh & sweet. Each batch since then has just got better & better & the grains have more than doubled. I split then in have as they get bigger, as I like big solid grains. Thank you for the well-loved grains...
