Moctezuma Agate expertly cut and polished pair, all natural with signature salmon color! Perfect for display or for slicing and cabbing.
Description
Nice pair of fluorescing Moctezuma (or Montezuma) Agate halves, old stock collected in 1970's Mexico. Yes this price is for both halves! The Moctezuma Agates are well known for their wide variety of pastel colors particularly the salmon color, sometimes in contrasting color combos. This one is a textbook example of this valuable natural gemstone. With intricate bands and soft contrasting colors and a Druzy Quartz pocket. This one also fluoresces under shortwave UV light (see image #5) This agate is perfect for display, fully polished by one of the best, but you could also continue to slice and polish yourself for some beautiful and valuable cabochons.
I am now including one of my UV/blacklights for free so you can watch the amazing transformation for yourself. Not all Thundereggs and Agates will fluoresce so this one is more valuable and interesting to people like me. You can also use this UV to check the rest of your rocks, Lapis Lazuli, Fluorite, Calcite, Geodes... you may be surprised by how many stones you already own that are hiding this secret. Read more about my UV/blacklights on my site, they are for sale if you want extras for your friends.
Moctezuma agates were collected in an area approximately 15 miles east of Estación Moctezuma on the ranches of San Martin and El Barreal in Mexico. The agates are surface findings with an average size from one to two inches (the big ones having a diameter up to 3 inches). Today nice collector pieces are difficult to obtain, in the earlier days (up to 1980) these agates were marketed in big quantities. The white skin, a very fine and nearly transparent white banding that often occurs is caused by weathering and is typical for this type of agate. Moctezuma agates are easily distinguished by their white skin, the pattern showing pastels such as shades of pink, salmon, yellow, grey and white in the core. Greyish to bluish translucent chalcedony around the outer rim.
Measurements taken with caliper device by me, not professionally. 1.75" long x 1.30" wide x 1.21" both halves together. 45mm long x 33mm wide x 30mm both halves together. It weighs 54 grams or 1.9oz that's 270 carats.
