242 Tenmoku (black) Soda-fired Rabbit

Favorite

Description

242 Soda-fired clay Bunny/Rabbit sculpture. This is one in a series of Rabbit/Bunnies whose bellies are rounded, and viewers are meant to rub their bellies for good luck, and gift one to friends who love all objects that promote good will, health and luck. This series of Rabbit/Bunnies arose from my interest in how we need to center ourselves with an object that allows us to do so. Each of the Rabbit/Bunnies in this series has a different head pose and expressions to capture its own unique personality. This original piece is fired in a tenmoku (black) glaze in soda-firing which produced a gorgeous mottle caramel color. The piece is made of stoneware. The rabbit body is wheel-thrown and altered while the rabbit head, arms, hands, feet and tail are hand sculpted. Approximate Dimensions: 12 (H) x 7 (W) x 9 (D). This firing was done at approximately 2000 degrees, and very strong and sturdy. Would make great centerpiece or a piece on a small pedestal for show.
