Plastic Bag Rain Jacket

Materials

plasticbags, thread, velcro

Description

To come up with the idea for this jacket, I was thinking about what I hate to throw away most: plastic bags. I feel so powerless that most of my food comes in plastic, only some of which is recyclable.

I made this rain jacket by ironing together layers of plastic bags to create a really thick durable fabric. I collected plastic bags from trash cans for a week to make the material. I love the melange of branding logos and colors created by layering the bags.

The jacket is unisex, and is one-size-fits-most. All kinds of people have come to my studio and tried it on, and so far it looks fabulous on everyone!

It's sewn together with polyester thread and has velcro up the front.
Though not as durable as gor-tex, this jacket will stand up to fierce elements (waterproof!) and aggressive jungle gym climbs.

It was beautiful, but my doggie chewed it up after the first wear. I just ordered a second one and will be more careful where I put it down haha
