This almost forgotten 1949 book by the great character actress has only a few paragraphs about The Wizard of Oz, but the treat is that she was a theatrical star at the turn of the century, knew the great people and relates what it was like to live in that era of dinners in evening dress, almost embarrassed at the extravagance but glad to relate the history. Even better, she was the widow of Flo Ziegfeld and gives a more detailed look at the showman and her marriage--and his flings and excesses, the joys and the secrets. There are limitations reflecting a certain honor code but still revealing more than expected. A great reveal of that era and some of the people she knew, including Mark Twain and George Cukor.
Worn but clean and no markings.
