Description

Can you picture the row of 6 bridesmaids on a warm spring day in 1958 in their glorious custom made gowns filling the front of the church? This beautiful dress was worn exactly once, in 1958 in a wedding for the owner's brother. Each dress was custom made for each of the attendants by the local seamstress. It was so fun to hear the story of the dress from the original owner. The dress is made of a beautiful red Swiss dot organza. The tiny dots are flocked meaning they have a raised velvet texture. I can't even guess how many yards of fabric and netting went into the skirt of this dress, it is huge! The midriff of the dress is neatly pleated and there is a delicate, scalloped synthetic horsehair trim around the neck line. Zipper is on the left side as was common for the time period.

The dress is pictured with two full petticoats underneath to show the volume of the skirt. Petticoats are not included.

Condition:
Great, used vintage condition. No rips, stains, or tears. Apparently this dress was fit so tightly on the original wearer that the only way she could get out of it was by busting the zipper. I did have to replace the original metal zipper as it was missing teeth. In order to make the dress easier to get into I put a longer, nylon zipper in. Side zippers make notoriously difficult to get in and out of a dress. The longer zipper should make that easier.
Please note that this was a custom, hand made dress. There are no manufacturer, size, or fiber content tags. This dress was not made to a specific size, but rather a specific person. It is very tiny, and I can tell you the owner really is /was a very petite, tiny lady.

Measurements:

Mannequin is a half mannequin. The dress was way too small for my regular mannequin.

Bust: 32-33"
Waist: 24 1/2""
Hips: Free
Back shoulder to shoulder: 13 1/2"
Front top edge of bust line to hem: 57"

Click on the Shipping & Policies tab for a calculated shipping estimate. Please convo me with any questions regarding shipping options for this piece. Etsy calculated shipping is for USPS and many times I can source other, less expensive, shipping options depending on your location.

All of my vintage items are used, one of a kind pieces. Many are decades old and have lived full lives before finding their way to me. I do my best to describe my items in as much detail as possible including any and all flaws I see.
All of my items are sold as is. I have a no return policy but if you receive your item and it has been dramatically misrepresented please contact me and we will work together to find a resolution. However, a complaint of "it is smaller/bigger than I thought it would be." is not grounds for a return. You are responsible for reading the full description of the item, including the measurements.
Please feel free to ask for additional pictures, I am happy to provide that or any additional information/measurements you may need to make your decision

Returns and exchange details
Returns are considered on a case by case basis with a 15% restocking fee. Return shipping is at your cost. ***Please be aware that I do not accept returns for sizing or change of heart. Measurements and sizing are provided and it is your responsibility to verify your measurements against the measurements of the garment. If you have any questions at all about measuring or sizing please contact me before purchasing.***

When purchasing clothing, hats, or shoes please carefully verify your own measurements. Most vintage clothing does not have a size on it so you will need to get out your tape measure. Even vintage items that do have sizes need to ave measurements verified. A 1920s size 12 is NOT the same as a modern size 12. Even modern sizing is not consistent among different brands. The tape measure is your friend, not your enemy!

Note that the measurements given are the measurements of the *garment*, not of the person who will wear it. It is always important to make sure to allow a couple inches for comfortable fit, as straining against vintage fabric is not a good idea (unless it is a fabric with a fair amount of stretch). In other words, If the waist measurement given is 28", your waist should measure 25"-26" for the garment to fit you comfortably.

A helpful hint for determining whether a vintage item will fit you is to compare the measurements given with that of a similar garment that does fit you.

Most of the items I currently sell are vintage USED items. This means they have had a life of their own before they came to me. I do my very best to describe any and all flaws or damage that I can find. I am not a smoker and I do not have pets in my shop but I cannot guarantee what situations these items come from. I try to avoid any items that smell of smoke. Most of my stock comes from estate sales and auctions.

I do sell some custom made items including corsets, hats, and vintage clothing reproductions. I will always state in my description which items have been custom created.
