Now We Are Six
A. A. Milne
Illustrated by E. H. Shephard
Methuen 1927
First edition, first impression.
Original red cloth, gilt titles to spine, gilt pictorial designs to covers, illustrated pink endpapers, top page edges gilt. Some bumping to extremities and sunning to boards, owner's original gift inscription but otherwise good, tight copy.
By the time Winnie-the-Pooh was published in late 1926, half the poems in this third book were complete.
It was first published on October 13 1927, in an edition of 50000 trade copies, and took only two months to eclipse the sales of When We Were Very Young and Winnie-the-Pooh. This is full of charming verse and notable for including many illustrations of Pooh, Piglet, and the other nursery toys.

The book contains 35 children's verses including such poems as 'King John's Christmas', 'Binker' and 'Pinkle Purr'. Eleven of the poems have illustrations of Winnie the Pooh. These include 'The Charcoal Burner', 'Us Two', 'The Engineer', 'Furry Bear', 'Knight in Armour', 'The Friend', 'The Morning Walk', 'Waiting at the Window', 'Forgotten', 'In the Dark' and 'The End.'
The book is burgundy cloth hardbound with gilt detail to spine and front cover, gilt illustration of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet to lower front cover. Some slight staining to front board, a trifle sunned, meaning that the book was displayed on a shelf exposed to sunlight. Text block clean and bright, a little pulled in places but firmly bound, indicating that the book has been read and enjoyed but it is still in good condition.
Original owner's inscription to flyleaf which says 'From Grandmama, Christmas 1927'.
