From Forest to Furniture

My designs start as sketches in my notebook which is always by my side. I take these sketches with me to the local family run sawmill so that I can be sure to select the optimum pieces of wood to use. I try to pick timber that has fantastic grain, but always keeping an eye on how my products will fit on the piece so as to waste as little wood as possible. On the trip back to my workshop, I can hardly wait to get started, it’s incredible to see the grain that’s been hiding under the rough wood for the first time as it exits the planer. I like to make my products in small batches, this helps to keep the quality as high as possible. Each item passes through my hands so many times through the fabrication process as I cut, shape, and smooth each piece. After the finish is applied, I check one last time, with my eyes and my hands to make sure each piece is up to my hand made standards. All of my products are made with a love and passion for my work, and I know you will cherish these items for years to come.
