Please be aware that due to the individuality of genuine stones, each piece of jewelry will vary in shape and coloration. Great care is taken in choosing stones and creating symmetry when selecting pairs, but—of course—Nature will always have the final say!

Each piece of WILD PROMISES jewelry is assembled by hand (specifically, those two belonging to designer Briana) in Providence, RI. WP castings are made just down the road in Johnston, RI; WP chains, findings, beads and stones are all sourced domestically whenever possible—and often locally—and WP designs also often reclaim orphaned vintage and second-hand parts.

WILD PROMISES is built on conscious sourcing, sustainable practices, and face-to-face collaboration with friends, colleagues, and New England neighbors. WILD PROMISES jewelry is both an investment in your own personal decorated awesomeness as well as three full-feathered cheers for unique small-scale economies like the one we have right here in this teeny-tiny state of Rhode Island.

I N L A Y :
‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
Most designs can be made to order using any of my available crushed stone inventory.

Generally, this includes lapis lazuli, green turquoise, blue turquoise, blue sodalite, black jet, deep green malachite, soft green aventurine, bright multicolor mixed shell, white mother of pearl shell, and black iridescent mixed shell; as well as gold tiger's eye and red jasper both available in slightly larger smooth chips or as rough crushed stone.

If you see a bead you love on one piece that you'd like to request on another design, that's probably do-able as long as I have that bead in stock. I'm happy to work with you. Just get in touch!

‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒

Sure!

I work with a wonderful and accommodating local casting company where they offer services in a wide variety of both precious and nonprecious metals including sterling silver, fine silver, bronze, copper, and gold.

All of the main components (inlay settings, findings, and pendants) can be easily cast in any other material, though chains and other little incidentals on a piece may not be in stock in your chosen metal (things like jump rings and chains). Depending on your vision, time frame and budget, most pieces can be tailored for a variety of metals, just allowing an additional two weeks for casting services. Ask, and—if at all possible—you shall receive!

・ Keep it dry—no showers, no pools, no marathon training!

・ Keep it clean—no cosmetics, no chemicals

・ Wipe it off—a quick rub with a cotton cloth before & after wear, as often as possible

・ Store it safely—just a plastic bag can help prolong its bright and shiny days between cleanings

‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒

Jewelry just wants to be loved! Treat it kindly—it prefers to keep things au naturel, so spritz your perfume and apply lotions and potions ✳︎before✳︎ adding your bling.

Jewelry also doesn’t know how to swim and it really hates the gym (can you blame it?), so your accessories are happiest avoiding your sweaty activities as well as steering clear of the pool, the shower, or the ocean.

Oils from your skin will speed up tarnishing—you can slow it down by wiping jewelry with a soft cotton cloth after wearing.

Your jewelry will really know you care if you give it a cozy home to relax in between wears, like a small plastic bag to protect from the elements (oxygen in the air also accelerates tarnishing)!

‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒

Even if you fall down on the job with the above recommendations for daily care and maintenance, your jewelry isn’t unreasonable. It doesn’t like to hold grudges! Bygones can be bygones.

That said, consider cleaning your jewelry as carefully as an extension of your body—as a general rule, if you wouldn’t clean yourself with a product, don’t clean your jewelry with it. No harsh chemicals or household cleaners, please!

Even just periodically running a nice soft cloth over your jewelry can do wonders to brighten it up. The warm golden tarnish that builds up on brass is actually a protective layer for the metal, so if you like that patina (as I definitely do!), let it be!

‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒

If your jewelry has gone through any particularly wearying exploit and really cries out for some serious pampering, try scrubbing the metal (but never, ever scrub the stones!) with a soft toothbrush and a dab of paste made with lemon juice and baking soda.

Or, Penny Brite is one natural commercial paste product that I love for shining up tiny or oddly-shaped parts.

Just remember that if your piece has an oxidized finish in recessed areas to highlight its texture, this effect can be compromised if cleaners sneak into those little areas! These pieces are best cleaned with cloths. The "Pro Polishing Pads" on Rio Grande's jewelry supply website are a (cheap!) product that I use often on oxidized pieces.

‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒

Unlike plated costume jewelry, brass is just BRASS, through and through.

Plating inevitably wears off (standard gold plating is around half a micron thick; a dollar bill is ✳︎400✳︎ times thicker!) to reveal whatever metal lies below (often that’s nickel, steel, or aluminum, which definitely won’t look anything like gold!).

While brass inevitably ✳︎oxidizes✳︎, this process is always reversible. I personally love brass with a rich patina, but anytime I want to revive a bright golden sparkle, I grab some polishing provisions and my brass is happy to get gussied up.

While brass jewelry might need some maintenance to stay bright and shiny, it can be a collaborative effort as your jewelry evolves with you!

‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒

Probably not, but it ultimately depends on your individual body chemistry and environment. Any temporary skin discoloration is nothing to fear, but the best way to avoid any greenness is keeping your brass as clean as possible and wiping it before & after each wear!

‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
How your body behaves with brass is really an entirely individual phenomenon, depending on your skin’s fluctuating pH levels and the daily environment.

The brass I work with in my jewelry is an alloy of zinc and copper. Copper is actually a trace element found throughout our bodies, but it’s also the oxidization of this copper which can occasionally leave some of us (harmlessly) green. Copper is antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antifungal, allowing it to serve countless everyday purposes—many people actually believe it has detoxifying and healing properties.

Regardless, keeping your jewelry generally sweat-free and wiping it down regularly before and after wear should reliably keep both your brass and your skin looking bright and clean!
‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒
