Wood Bowl made from Canadian Ash tree - Handmade on a Wood Lathe

This awesome bowl was salvaged from a tree that was destined for the fireplace. A tree had to be taken down due to the infestation of a bug that has destroyed many trees in Southern Ontario. The log was cut with a chain saw, "rough-turned" when the wood was still green and then stored away for over a year in a paper bag with wood chips so that the wood would dry. There is a crack in the side of the bowl that happened during this drying process. Some folks would discard the bowl due to the crack but I don't mind it but rather think it is reflective of the process that the wood goes through in the journey from the tree to the bowl.

This bowl has survived many winters, bugs and the drying process - it has the scars to prove it! But, that is what, in my opinion, gives it so much character.

Turned on a wood lathe, sanded to a very fine smoothness and then completed with a polyurethene finish, this bowl tells a wonderful story of perseverance.
