Light:
Lighting for Tillandsia’s should be bright but filtered (April - October). They should not be left in the direct sun in the summer months (this will cause the plant to become sunburned ). Tillandsia’s love direct sun (November - March). Tillandsia’s may be grown in the house directly in front of a window. Fresh moving air is advisable, but remember, the most important care need is bright filtered light.
Artificial Light:
Full spectrum artificial light (fluorescent) is best. Light should be set with a timer, 12 hours per day.
Water:
While air plants don't grow in soil, they definitely NEED to be watered.
We recommend giving them a thorough rinsing under running water 2-3
times per week or letting them soak in a bath of water for 20-30 minutes. Do not soak xerographica.
You can also lightly mist air plants using spray bottle.
After watering they should be able to dry out in 4 hours or less to avoid rotting.
If your Tillandsia’s become too dry or desiccated they will benefit from on overnight soaking in bucket of water.
The best water to use is spring or rain water.
Temperature:
Air plants will do best in generally warm conditions (a good range is 50-90 degrees).
They can be kept outdoors year round if protected from frost.
