Description

Who deserves a smart piece of quality furniture and a stylish way of knowing the time?

This clock will look good in anyone's home and makes a beautiful present for someone you think deserves a smart piece of quality furniture with a stylish way of knowing the time. A stunningly imposing, traditionally styled, mantel clock that looks impressive on mantel, desk or bookshelf.

The clock is approximately 230mm tall, 185 mm wide and 95mm deep at the base.

Apart from the facia, all pieces of the clock were cut from a single piece of beech, sourced from a local wood yard in Llanon, just north along the coast from us. After cutting, milling and routing the components, the pieces were sanded smooth and assembled. The completed case was stained and lacquered before being waxed with our own shop-made beeswax polish.

It is powered by a superb quartz movement giving a familiar tick so the clock, as well as telling the time, provides a peaceful and steady audio backdrop your world. The movement itself is mounted in a removable caddy for easy cleaning or maintenance and is operated by a single AA battery (NOT included.).

The 100m x 150mm aluminium dial plate is protected from the environment by 2mm picture glass and, above an arched Celtic design, the dial itself has Arabic numbering with a circular Celtic knot emphasising the endless continuity of eternity. Since the dial has a complex and ornate design, we thought simple hands would be appropriate.

You can buy this clock or have one handmade to order and so we are able to incorporate your choice of wood, inscriptions, or other customization. Please feel free to message us here or on Facebook to discuss these options. For example you can see one made for someones wedding with a plaque mounted on the base with their names and wedding date inscribed on it. as shown in some of the photos.

All pieces are handmade in our home workshop in Ceredigion, Wales. We use traditional methods and techniques for most operations but occasionally, for detailed designs or where accuracy is paramount, we employ technology to help us. We also mix our own lacquers, oils and waxes.

We use locally sourced and salvaged materials, particularly wood and slate, where we can. Our own garden and the fields owned by our farming neighbours are also a bountiful source of supplies. Many of the items in the shop originated from our log pile. Sometimes, when appropriate, materials, i.e. clock movements, glass, brass, aluminium, etc. are bought in from external suppliers.
