Description

A lithograph with wood-block printed oil ink support. Published in 1852, it it number 5 of a set of prints that depict the Great Exhibition of 1851.

There is a blind stamp on the bottom center below the print that says "Printed in Oil Colours, G. Baxter Inventor & Pantentee, 11 & 12 Northampton Square, The Gems of the Great Exhibition No. 5"

The frame is either original or early. It has the original framers information on the back, "H.E. Richards, Fine Art Dealer, Picture Framer and Artists Colourman, 174e, High Street, Lewisham, S.E., "

The frame measures approximately 10.25" x 14.75".

The mat surrounding the image is discolored, there are a few pieces of the plasterwork on the frame that are missing, and there is general wear and aging on the back. The original paper from the framer covers the board that backs the frame. There are two original eyes on the back for framing, and someone added a couple recent metal pieces for framing on the top.
