Description

I purchased this bead, along with others, in Chiang Mai Thailand in the early to mid 90's. It is an ancient bead of etched, agatized palm wood. A heirloom bead of the Chin people of Western Burma the beads entered the marketplace in the early to mid 80's. They are intensely sought after now.

This particular bead is 1.35 cm (long) by 1.4cm in diameter. It has a good patina and nice, clear pattern. There is an old chip at one end and two small old chip along the sidea (please examine photos carefully). There is one area where there is a small pale patch.

The 6 line sun ray decoration is common in a bead of this type, but genuine ancient Pumtek beads are not common at all.
