Dimensions

Pendant height: 1.38 Inches; Pendant width: 0.92 Inches

This pendant features a crystal of rich orange-brown topaz rough from Skardu in Pakistan. The raw gemstone measures 0.96 x 0.85 inches (24.4 x 21.6 mm) and weighs in at 67 carats.

Topaz is a gem which has only in the past few centuries gained the attention it deserves. In antiquity the name 'topaz' actually meant the gem we know today as 'peridot.' Fortunately, this fantastic gem is now well known and loved. Though the most famous colors are the classic (usually irradiated) blue stones, and the natural orange to purple hues of imperial topaz, other hues are also found. This stone is a good example of 'whiskey' topaz, with a saturated yellow-brown color, which isn't really typical of any other gem.

This is a lovely example, showing the classic blocky crystal form of stones from the pegmatites of pakistan. The bottom has a classic, slightly etched termination, while the top is fully etched with complex, curved crystal faces. Overall it is a really beautiful gem, with a rich red-brown color, polished faces and good internal clarity that throws back a lot of light.

NOTE: This crystal has been gamma irradiated to produce its rich brown color (natural browns from this deposit are lighter in tone). This stone will fade if exposed to direct sunlight for long periods.
