Description

Walter Campbell born in Toronto in 1951, is renowned for his intricate dry brush watercolor paintings of themes evolving around Victorian buildings of historic note or aesthetic value.

He's got a vision of family life that spans a century. Campbell's original works of art, as well as his limited edition and signature series prints have quite a following.

The self-taught, 64-year-old Canadian has been capturing the essence of Victorian era on Canvas for over 40 years. Currently Walter Campbell paints tribute to Victorian architecture in North America out of his peaceful rural studio residence near Sunderland, Ontario.

"With a stroke of a paintbrush, stories are woven through his detailed watercolour originals. The images evoke memories and his works are a tribute to families in a timeless fashion, with stories that range from relationships with the land, our homes and our families and all the seasons and holidays we own." (From his website).

A listed Canadian artist he is represented by:

National Gallery of Canada - Library and Archives / Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography
Art Gallery of Ontario - Edward P. Taylor Research Library and Archives
Toronto Reference Library

The hunt and the hounds were and still are fixtures of Englands colonial heritage. The symbolism of British know how and mastery over nature with style and grace are part of our heritage as well. "Talley Ho" seems to belong with this British operatic activity. Charming and aristocratic.

The ‘Hunt’ in its traditional, more formal form began as far back as 1668 in Buckinghamshire England. The earliest North American hunt was established in Montreal in 1826, followed by Virginia in 1840. (In our times it's the chase not the kill, banned over a decade now, that is in play).

And as one enthusiast says: "The oddity, the whimsy, the history, the tradition; the world needs more of it so why not here?"

It has a lovely frame in good condition along with the signed and numbered lithograph (421/590) , ready to hang.
