Witchcraft; or The Martyrs of Salem by Cornelius Mathews is a gothic melodrama written in 1846. The author was known as the Father of American Drama, and his play is perfect for readings and performances even today.

The playwright dramatized the Salem witch hunts with a reality which resonates with chilling clarity in today’s social and political climate.

Margaret Fuller called the play “a work of strong and majestic lineaments,” and William Cullen Bryant considered it a “cornerstone of American drama.”

Introduction is by Walter J. Meserve; cover design and book layout by Mollie Ann Meserve.

The book is comb bound, with a clear plastic cover over paper. It measures approximately 8-1/2 inches x 5-3/4".
