Hand-crafted with dried leaves of the rice plant. Unicorn, mythology figure. Size 8" X 10". Ready to frame. It took over thousands of tiny pieces of rice straw and many hours of artistic work to create this unique masterpiece. Only one made. Signed by the artist. Learn about the ancient and endangered leaf art.

Rice Straw art has been in existence for thousands of years but is in danger of being extinct. The history of straw art goes way back in time when people didn’t know how to make various colors, paint or dyes. The artists at that time used the natural colors of the rice straw (dried leaves of the rice plant) to create images. They used different shades of the rice straw (Dark, light, brown, yellow, white etc) to create color for their art works.

Rice Straw Art
(An Ancient & Endangered art)

Rice straw art is an ancient art form which developed before our existing knowledge of color application became known. This leaf art form consists of using the natural colors of the rice plant to form a straw collage of unsurpassed beauty. No color, paint or dye is added to the natural color of the rice straw (dried leaves of the rice plant). This unique art is on the list of endangered art and only very few artists around the world practice this unique, ancient leaf art. Ray Koshy of Galveston, Texas is the only one in USA. I create rice straw art. This unique art is in the list of endangered form of leaf art. Less than 100 artists practice this ancient art around the world and I am the only rice straw artist in USA.

Rice Straw art is an ancient & endangered leaf art existed many centuries ago but very few people knew about this art, also handfuls of artists still practice this unique, beautiful leaf art. This art originated in the southern tip of India called Kerala & in danger of being extinct. Not many people want to learn this art because because they can make better living doing something else. I learned this leaf art working with some of the masters of this art. I lived with them and learned this art and practice this unique art in Galveston, Texas.
I had a FREE museum in Galveston for many years but I had to close it due to financial reasons, since it was FREE and only income was from the sales of rice straw art and that was not enough to pay the rent & other expenses. Now I opened the museum on the web at ETSY and promoting it. Rice Straw Museum has the largest collection of leaf art anywhere in the world and I am selling some of that collections to the public to create an awareness of the beauty & uniqueness of this special art. No one else is selling leaf art on ETSY or through any other source in USA. You have to see it to believe they are made out of rice straw ( Dried leaves of rice plant). Some of my art especially the portraits are created with thousands of tiny pieces of rice straw & it takes weeks create a single piece. No color paint or dye added to the natural color of rice straw. All the colors or hues you see in rice straw art is natural colors of rice straw. This art originated before we knew how to make color, paint or dye. The artists selected & sorted out different colored straw, opened it with a sharp tool flattened it out, apply glue ( gum Arabic is the glue used & it is the sap from a tree ) on one side placed it on a cloth or paper and cut with a double edged razor blade. Before the razor blades they used sharp stones to cut the rice straw. Everything used to create rice straw art is natural substances like leaves, rice straw, glue, stones etc. even now the artists use the same techniques as used by the forefathers.
Rice Straw Museum is dedicated to preserve, protect & promote this beautiful ancient art from extinction and to introduce this unique art to the world.
No two leaves or leaf art look exactly alike.

I have sold over 200 leaf art through my ETSY shop. I promote other etsy shops through social media like twitter (over 32300 twitter friends ), Facebook, pinterest etc. I also favor many other etsy shops & in turn many other etsy shop owners promote my shop.

Please call me 4097625621 or email me rkoshy9622 [!at] aol.com. If you have any questions. I have about 7 sections like salute to Hollywood, ancient leaf art, Victorian homes, birds etc. each & everyone of my leaf art is handmade, signed & numbered, unique collectible art. It makes wonderful Christmas gifts.
