Description

20 seeds per packet.

Chieh qua size: 6-8" long x 2-3" diameter
(it can be grow as big as watermelon if they stay on the vine!!!)

Chieh qua is also called fuzzy melon, hairy melon or mo qua It is a member of the family Cucurbitaceae, with a vigorous annual vine that is usually allowed to grow upright on trellis.
They are very popular in South China dishes. Chieh-qua are very easy and long season growing. They are excellent yields. One or two plants can produce enough fruits for whole family.

I grow these yummy Chieh qua in my backyard and harvest the best seeds every year. So all the seeds you received are freshest, chemical free and untreated seeds from previous corp. The quantity are very limited. As they sold out you have to wait until next year to have them. :)

Warm season annual
Full sun
Growing up a trellis, need strong sticks to support
Growing space 36" apart and 48" per row
Harvest approx. 60-65 days after transplant. Pick when it only about 8″ long or so, there are only very tiny seeds inside. If you wait too long to harvest then remove the seeds to eat. Always peel the skin before you cook.

How to grow:

Start indoor
Soak the seeds 24 hour, fill the small seed pots with wet potting mix, use a pen to dig a hole, put the seed in and slightly cover with soil. Then cover the seed pots with plastic wrap and put them in room temperature until sprouts appear. Take off the plastic wrap and gradually put them under full sun, start water regularly until the seedling come out with 4 leaves then you can transplant them to your garden.

Start outdoor
Direct sow the dry seeds outside after danger of last frost. I would like to wait late April or early May to start. Water the well prepare rich soil. Don not allow the soil to dry out. Plant 2-3 the seeds in one hill and 1“ below soil surface. After the seeds sprout, only leave the strongest seedling per hill and remove all the weak ones. The final seedlings should be spaced at 36"apart and 48" per row.

Happy growing!
