Description

Beautiful but heavy cased vase with applied teardrops designed by renowned artist, Pavel Hlava. It was made in 1977 and is pattern no 7714/23. It is the largest in this range of vases.

It was made at the Skrdlovice glassworks in Czechoslovakia.

It is referenced in Bevan jones, Parilk and Hill's book 'Beranek & Skrdlovice' where it is described as a hallmark design and states:

"The surface is decorated with massive applied teardrops of colourless glass, creating a tactile globular form that almost appears like some organic or alien life form. They also act to refract, reflect and magnify the underlying coloured casings. They are a modern twist on the traditional technique of applied drips that may be seen in earlier Bohemian glass. Hlava made them larger, and created and unusual and striking design.

Very heavy in weight, they are uncommon today and tend to fetch high prices due to the fame and popularity of Hlava's designs."

The vase is:

23cm (9 inches) high;
18cm (7 inches) at its widest point
10.5cm (4 inches) wide at the rim;
and weighs 4.8kg (10.5 pounds).

It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, scratches or bruises.
