This mixed media art collage is made with a vintage Paris map featuring a multicolor bird who travels home to his nest.
This is a 6x6 (1 and 1/2 inches deep) canvas, collaged with vintage book pages and ribbon around the sides, and a vintage (1935) map of the Paris subway (genuine - not a reproduction). White tissue paper and a light film of gold metallic paint have been applied over these papers to give a soft gauzy appearance. The piece is then collaged with a beautiful, colorful bird with glittered wings, tulle and snippets of vintage lace and wool, metal charms and brads, silk leaves, and flatback Swarovski crystals. Textured letter stickers spell out 'fly away home'. The surface has been carefully sealed for preservation.
This is a lovely, nostalgic piece that evokes the feeling of the freedom to fly away and explore, and the promised warmth of home. The small size makes for a perfect little piece of personal art. This piece is OOAK and signed and dated on the back.
Sturdy enough to stand on its own on a table top or on a small easel, there is a hook secured to the back for easy hanging.
