Description

The postcard saying “No Poll Tax Here” refers to a series of riots and political unrest in the 1990’s under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Something we have yet to see here in the US.

This 3D collage, assemblage is made from e-waste transformed into a geometric abstraction. Each part is an element in a relationship that come together in a bold composition. Vivid, bold patterns made by repetition seen in: black & green zig zag pattern from an old appointment book, clear rubber buttons on a black layer, dots on keyboard flexi-sheets. The focal point is a lovely almond shaped, white, ceramic switch. Its details include a delicate circle of dots and petal-like tabs that click when it is turned. This old piece of electronics contrasts with the more high tech components.

Repetition and pattern is seen in many different forms, thin parallel lines, cut outs, the prongs of a black heat sink. A gentle curve of aluminum, mirrored in a piece where a blue patterned flexi sheet is framed by a "double window". It is a crazy fun collection of patterns brought together like a quilt. Each element is a piece of the puzzle that creates the whole.

- My work is hand made of recycled materials. Wear, tear, dents and scratches are inherent in the process.

- Pictures just do not convey the reat presence of this piece.

- one of a kind

- signed and dated

Finding beauty in unexpected places - Melissa Glick works out of the Artisan's Asylum in Somerville MA. She is inspired by the variety of shapes, colors, materials, textures and patterns of the components in outdated technology and combines them with appropriated imagery in three dimensional collage she calls Hacker Creations. These were gorgeous. I loved the red color- it really stands out. One of the earring pieces has detached from the hook fairly often, but mostly in transit (ie pocket, bag, etc), never when on.
