Nebraska Springtime Sky - original plein air oil landscape painting by Dawn Chandler
This painting is from my March road trip to Nebraska to witness the epic annual spring migration of sandhill cranes along the Platte River.
As with all of my Nebraska paintings, we are not far from Rowe Sanctuary; the Platte River is just a few hundred yards behind us.
In the sky this day, there was an amazing cloud, appearing almost flat, but deep purple grey.
If you follow my work, you've heard me say it before, but I just love the contrast/complement of cool purple-blue in the sky with the warm ocher and gold-browns of the field.
I was pretty much in heaven painting this scene — especially when ribbons of cranes would speckle the sky.
This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting by Dawn Chandler.
